Honors students are encouraged to participate fully in the extracurricular and social activities offered at Blitstein Institute. The Honors Program fosters the development of leadership skills.
One of the core components of the program is our Leadership Seminar, a 3-credit Leadership course for students new to the Honors Program. Honors students will receive a tuition waiver for this course. The course can be used to satisfy the Modern Civilization core Liberal Arts requirement.
The course encourages the development of leadership skills through a seminar-style leadership curriculum and lectures given by local community leaders. Students will discuss the competencies and qualities of an effective leader and learn about the challenges and successes of leaders in diverse settings. In small groups, students in the course will take on a leadership initiative project. The project will be student-driven, with support from faculty. The project must (1) allow students to assume leadership roles on campus and/or the local community and (2) be designed to have a long term positive impact on the school and/or the local community.
